The reverse depicts a red-crowned crane by a lake among cherry blossoms, executed in champlevé enamel and miniature painting (the crane's feathers are drawn with a single-hair brush). The body of the crane is decorated with snow-set diamonds, and the lake background combines 269 diamonds and 395 sapphires in two shades of blue – JLC's first use of colour-snow-set gemstones.
